I believe that every student is capable accomplishing great things and has the power to change the world. Students are not only the learners, but they are the teachers.
Our task, regarding creativity, is to help children climb their own mountains, as high as possible. No one can do more. Children go to school to learn, however, there is a fear and common misconception that school is where children lose their sense of creativity. However, children's creativity is ever-flowing and changing. It is this changing creativity that assists children in accomplishing all their dreams and goals, which is why creativity must be cherished. Due to the unlimited creativity and collaboration with peers, children become problem solvers and change the world with their unique perspectives and growing minds.
During my first semester of student teaching, I encountered several students who had a hatred of writing. I was tasked with working with some of these students in small groups and one-on-one to help them become more comfortable with writing. In the picture to the right, I challenged my friend Owen to write about why he dislikes writing. At first, he laughed at me and said that he couldn't do that because teachers would be mad at him. I assured him that no one would be angry and Owen wrote a well thought out paragraph all about his dislike of writing. While he did not come up with is idea himself, he took it and ran with it. I was so proud of his hard work, but more importantly, Owen was proud of himself. |
